Elevator Rescue: A.I. duPont High School

Friday, July 13, 2018
On 6 August 2014 at 12:58 hours, the Cranston Heights Fire Company (Station-14) was dispatched, via the NCC 911 Center, for an Elevator Rescue with a report of subjects (2) trapped inside at the A.I. duPont High School, located at #50 Hillside Road. Rescue-14 with a crew of four (4) and 14-Captain-2 (Edgerton) via Utility-14, responded to this incident. Upon arrival, units from the CHFCo. confirmed two subjects inside the West Elevator, between the 1st floor and Sub-Floor #1. One member of the CHFCo. was assigned to proceed to the Elevator Control Room, in order to secure the power to the elevator where the subjects were located. Once the power to the elevator in question had been "locked-out", the crew from Rescue-14, utilizing elevator keys, breached the doors (outer and inner) of the elevator from Sub-Floor #1. The subjects were then assisted from the elevator and assessed by members of the CHFCo. with no EMS being required. CHFCo. Units were in service a total of 23 minutes effecting the rescue.
