On 30 January 2014 at 1238 hours, the Cranston Heights Fire Company (Station-14) along with other mutual aid units were dispatched to assist the Millcreek FCo (Stations 2 & 21) with an Engine and Rescue for a report of a House Trailer Fire at 929 - 10th Avenue in the Murray Manor II Trailer Park. Within 2 minutes of dispatch, Engine 14-2 responded with a crew of four, commanded by Rickie Clark, Jr. and Rescue-14 responded with a crew of five, commanded by James Grieco (14 Captain 1). While en route, NCC Fire Dispatch notified responding units, they were receiving several calls reporting a fire. The “Fireboard” then upgraded the alarm with the “Working Alarm Assignment”. NCC Paramedic 3-A was the first unit on scene and confirmed a “Working Alarm” with “heavy fire showing”. Rescue-14 was the first fire unit on scene, parking past the incident scene, and handled the “First-Due Special Services Assignment”. Engine 14-2 was the second fire unit on scene and due to the distance from the incident location to the closest fire hydrant, was forced to “Split Lay” their 5-inch supply line from the end of the road, ordering the next due engine to finish the lay to the hydrant. Engine 14-2 stopped short of the incident scene, due to the fire impinging on the next residence closest to the engine and handled the First-Due Engine Assignment”. The crew from Engine 14-2, with the assistance of additional mutual aid units – once they arrived on scene, placed three 2-inch attack lines in service. Two attack lines went into/on the fire building and one attack line was dedicated to protecting the exposure. The incident was placed “Under Control” within 15 minutes of the arrival of Station-14 Units (Engine 14-2 and Rescue-14). Crews worked for an additional two hours overhauling the scene. The fire is currently being investigated by the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office. Additional Units On Scene Included: Squrt-21, 21-1, 30-6, 17-4, 12-4, Rescue-23 (RIT), Deputy-12, FM-18, FM-20, B-2, A-12 and Medic-3A.
