Passing of Cranston Heights Fire Co. Assistant Secretary Duane J. Denney
Wednesday, July 4, 2018

Duane J. Denney passed away peacefully at Christiana Hospital on October 5, 2015. Duane was 69 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Denney and Erna Rusch Denney. He is survived by his sisters, Sandra Warrick, husband Les and Marsha McCoy, husband Thomas and nephews Jack Warrick, his children, Caitlyn, Timothy, Liam and Keegan; and nephew Brian Warrick, his children, MacKenzie and William, all of whom he loved dearly. Duane was a Boy Scout in Richardson Park growing up and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was heavily involved with the Henry C. Conrad Alumni Assoc. and worked to preserve the traditions of the school from which he graduated in 1964. After graduation Duane joined the Merchant Marines and sailed on tankers for a few years. He enjoyed fishing and live concerts, especially Blue Grass. An avid railroad buff, Duane worked for Amtrak for over 25 years and volunteered at the Wilmington Western Railroad. He was most recently employed at Dassault Falcon in New Castle until his retirement a few years ago. He was also a member and officer of the Greenhill Lions Club for several years. Since 1999, he had been an active member of the Cranston Heights Volunteer Fire Company and was serving as Assistant Secretary. Duane was given seven more years of life from the Gift of Life Program. His wish was to encourage everyone to be a gift of life organ donor so others would be as fortunate as Duane, to receive the ultimate gift. At Mr. Denney's request, all services will be private. In his memory, donations can be made to the Cranston Heights Volunteer Fire Company, 3306 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19808 or the organization of your choice.
