On 2 January 2014 at 02:18 hours the Cranston Heights Fire Company, along with mutual aid units, were dispatched for a reported fire in a commercial structure, located at 3320 Old Capitol Trail, the "Margaritas Restaurant & Bar". New Castle County Paramedic "ALS-21" (Dunn) was the first unit on scene and advised NCC Fire Dispatch of "smoke and fire showing" from the structure. The "Fireboard" then upgraded the alarm with the "Working Alarm Assignment". Fire Chief Jon Sokira (14-8) arrived shortly after assuming command of the incident (Cranston Heights Command) Engine 14-2 responded with a crew of 3 commanded by Jordan Edgerton (14 Captain 2). Upon arrival of 14-2, the crew immediately established a water supply line and advanced a 2" attack hose line into the structure. They were met by a heavy smoke condition and fire above the drop ceiling, spreading throughout the structure. Upon the arrival of Rescue-14, the crew conducted VES. Multiple crews from mutual aid units operated in suppression, ladder operations and search & ventilation. The situation was placed under control by Fire Chief Sokira shortly after 04:00 hours. The fire is currently being investigated by the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office.
